Meet the Periodontist

Meet Dr. Micah Chan

Dr. Chan is a board-certified periodontist and a member of the American Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Chan is a Chinese-Canadian from Montreal who came to Minnesota originally for grad school. He fell in love with the city after the first month and decided to stay. Now, with a wife and starting a family, as well as a cat and a dog, it looks like Dr. Chan is staying here for good!

It was encouragement from his father that first led Dr. Chan to a career in dentistry. He had spent a year shadowing a cardiac surgeon. While preparing his application for medicine, his father suggested he apply to dentistry as well—“just in case.” He ended up applying the day before the deadline, and 20 years later, he’s never looked back.

After graduating as a dentist, Dr. Chan initially worked for three years as a general dentist. He then completed three more years of specialized training to become a periodontist. As a specialist in periodontics, Dr. Chan treats gum disease, performs bone grafts, places implants, and more.

In work and in life, Dr. Chan is an avid “indoors man” who loves order, predictability, and tidiness. Somehow, he has a family that loves the outdoors and isn’t afraid of messiness and bugs. They’re helping him to become more well-rounded!

Dr. Chan’s dream vacation would be visiting a big city where he can try different restaurants, see a few shows, and stay in a high-rise with a great view, a big bathtub, and a gym. At his current stage of life, a realistic vacation is more like he and his wife catching up on house chores while his in-laws watch their son.

Married to Jenny and with another son on the way, Dr. Chan makes the most of his time out of the office enjoying his favorite hobbies. That includes waking up at 4 a.m. on weekdays and working out. He also likes reading and baking pies.

Meet the Team

Nicole

Officer Manager
Nicole attended the Minneapolis Community and Technical College and achieved her dental assisting license and certification. She has been working with the Metro Dentalcare Richfield Periodontics team for 13 years. Nicole originally went to dental assisting school because she wanted to help patients understand the importance of oral health care. She also wanted to be someone who could help people get through their fear of dentistry. Nicole quickly gravitated toward the administrative side of dentistry and loves learning about OSHA and training and helping other team members. In 2016, Nicole became a practice team lead, and in 2021, project management office (PMO). She is dedicated to supporting the team and has kept her license updated so that she can quickly jump into the assistant’s chair when needed.

Nicole has three kids, who are her purpose and reason for everything she does. They are all different ages and keep her very busy. Peyton is 15, Madison is 6, and Kylie is 4. For Nicole, nothing is better than watching her kids have fun in their daily activities and sports. She is a basketball and soccer mom. Nicole also loves spending time with her extended family, visiting church, and volunteering when she can. She loves the beach, popcorn, ice cream, and coffee.

Toshia

Licensed Dental Assistant
Toshia attended Hennepin, Eden Prairie, and Brooklyn Park Technical College. She has an associate of applied science and is a licensed dental assistant and a certified nursing assistant. She also has additional training in oral sedation and monitoring. Toshia loves helping people, whether it is to help them be the best version of themselves or just to make them happy.

Toshia has two children and one granddaughter. She loves spending time with her family, and she is also a big fan of shopping, volunteering, and interior design. Toshia likes her personal space to be clean at all times. She also has a hidden talent for driving race cars and changing car tires and brakes.

Alyse

Licensed Dental Assistant
Alyse is a dedicated dental professional with a passion for balancing work, family, and personal growth. She is truly passionate about helping the people around her. Her hidden talents in the office are multitasking and creative problem solving. She is efficient and has a strong intuition. Alyse helps us all keep track of our cases and orders. She ensures the practice is stocked for each treatment, and she is really great at reaching the top shelves.

As a mother of two, Alyse enjoys spending time with her family when she’s not working. Together with her husband, she tries to make their home the happiest it can be for raising their little ones. Alyse likes to work on home projects, including their new home gym, where her passion for weight lifting comes to life. She loves Tex-Mex food all day, every day, and is always on the lookout for comfort food that brings flavor to the table. Alyse also enjoys a good reality TV show when winding down after a busy day of work.

Samantha

Registered Dental Hygienist
Samantha joined the practice in 2015 and has an associate of science in dental hygiene from Argosy University in Eagan, Minnesota. She also has certifications in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide. Samantha is compassionate, kind, friendly, and caring. The office would fall apart without her ability to stay calm when things get chaotic.

Originally from Michigan, Samantha relocated to Minnesota as a child, with her three siblings and her mom. She has one teenage son, Mason, and an orange cat, Phil. Samantha really enjoys Minnesota weather and being outside in the fall. She also enjoys spending time with family, going to concerts, and reading good books.

Akenya

Business Assistant
Akenya joined Metro Dentalcare Richfield–Periodontics in January 2025 and brings a bright personality and a musical spirit to the front office. She is the youngest of 17 siblings and recently moved to Bloomington with her 5-year-old son. She’s known around the office as “the singer” because she’s always humming a tune or sharing her love of music throughout the day.

A Virgo through and through, Akenya enjoys going to the movies, taking cruises, and spending time at water parks and amusement parks. Her favorite colors are pink and periwinkle, and she’s proud to be left-handed. Whether she's greeting patients or keeping things organized up front, Akenya helps make each visit a little more cheerful.
